THE RUST SERIES
Mixed media sculpture incorporating patina'd terra cotta and wood, iron, and steel found pieces collected from years of art scavenge. One of a Kind originals.
The found pieces past functions have been redefined, both in structure and meaning: new life, age old materials. Departing from the traditional bronze, the sculptures are done in terra cotta, a rich, age-old sculptural medium, earthy and fullbodied as the female forms.
Identifying with the female angst, these gestures represent moments, we, as women, have shared: moments in life that are funny, sad, rediculous, joyous, reflective.
Rust, per se, is such a rich and warm patina, always varying in shade, vibrancy and texture. Emotionally it is comforting, intriguing...reminiscent of age, use, misuse, abuse, rejection, dormancy. The sometimes absurd self-notions women have, and the paces they needlessly put themselves through, may be a little "rusty" and
perhaps need to be reexamined or discarded. Along with the necessary angst of the yin/yang and the condition of the world, we can also embrace the joy of being a woman and simply revel!
